Isophthalic Acid

This chemical is a colorless solid and is one of the isomers of phthalic acid and terephthalic acid. Isophthalic acid is an important organic dicarboxylic acid for the synthesis of alkyd resin and polyester resins. When added to the resin reaction, increases the resin’s resistance to water and other chemical agents.

Isophthalic acid is produced from the oxidation of meta xylene using oxygen on a scale of about one billion kilograms per year. Cobalt-manganese catalyst is used in this process.
