Surface activators are used to increase contact and wetting properties between two materials. Surfactants (Surface active agents) are organic compounds that have hydrophobic groups (water repellent) and hydrophilic groups (water absorbent).
Surfactants are substances that reduce the surface tension between two liquids or between a liquid and a solid. Sodium stearate, the most common component of most soap, which comprises about 50% of commercial surfactants.
The orientation of these molecules is such that the insoluble part connects with the solid surface.
Surface activators play an important role in cleaning, wetting, dispersing, emulsifying, foaming and antifoaming in many industries. Surfactants usually sound like dark liquid and smell like vinegar.
