Citric acid is one of the organic acids. The discovery of this acid is attributed to Jabir bin Hayyan. In 1890, citric acid was produced on an industrial scale using citrus fruits. In this method, calcium citrate precipitate is formed by calcium hydroxide, and then the resulting precipitate is separated with dilute sulfuric acid and converted into citric acid. Currently, citric acid is obtained from a substance containing glucose.
