Methylene Chloride is a colorless organic solvent with an odor similar to chloroform, which is used in the production of many other chemical products. It is a volatile and polar liquid and is not miscible with water. This compound is a derivative of methane in which chlorine is placed instead of two hydrogens and it is a polar solvent. To prepare Methylene Chloride, methane is reacted with chlorine gas. The reaction temperature should be higher than 400 °C to make the reaction easy. This chemical can also be produced through the reaction of chlorine gas with chloromethane.
