Perchloroethylene chemical substance C2Cl4 (Perchloroethylene)

Perchloroethylene (PCE) is also known by other names such as tetrachloroethylene, Perchloroethane or tetrachloroethane and has the chemical formula C2Cl4. It is a colorless liquid and is considered a suitable solvent for organic compounds. Due to its non-flammability, high stability and volatility, its Perstabil grade is mainly used in dry cleaners and washing facilities and industrial equipment.

Michael Faraday first synthesized tetrachloroethylene from the thermal decomposition of hexachloroethane in 1821, and the production of this product on a commercial scale began in 1985. Also, the Catalyst Grade of this material is a chlorinating agent that creates a large amount of chloride ions as an accelerator of catalyst activity and is used in the isomerization process of oil refineries to produce gasoline.

At low temperature it starts to decompose to H2S, thus eliminating the dangers of reducing metal oxides before Sulphidation.

Three different grades of this product are being sold, dry cleaning grade, steam grade and refinery/catalyst grade.
